Remember the formulation loop with SAFE: Situation triggers an Automatic thought, which drives Feeling (and body sensation), which drives behaviour, and that behaviour feeds back into (Extends) the situation or the original thought. Then remember that every technique attacks one letter of this loop — a thought record attacks the S-to-A arrow, a behavioural experiment attacks the loop-back arrow from behaviour to belief.
